About Your Instructor

Natasha Khokhar

Hello! I’m Natasha, a teacher with a special education credential and a passion for teaching neurodivergent learners.

I specialize in reading and writing, which I teach as a Resource Specialist at a public elementary school in Orinda. I bring a unique and powerful perspective as a parent and advocate of two neurodivergent children, as well as a neurotypical child. I feel honored to have the opportunity to hold space for parents learning how to navigate this challenging journey. I have a deep understanding and compassion for reluctant, distracted, and sprightly students who have trouble learning in a traditional classroom. I fiercely believe all kids can learn.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in creating a safe space for students to take risks, and granting them autonomy over their decisions whenever possible. By taking time to understand each learner’s strengths, interests, and how their unique brain works, I can support students without fear of failure getting in the way.

My Practices:

  • Consistent, age-appropriate dialogue about understanding themselves as learners.
  • Repeated recognition of strengths as a touchstone.
  • Meeting students where they are at with differentiated instruction, multi-modal presentation of concepts, and options to demonstrate skills and understanding.
  • Structure, routine, consistency, and repetition to accommodate learning differences.
  • Developing a growth mindset in students to work diligently on challenges; to see them as goals to work towards so their learning journey can grow.

I have worked with neuro-divergent students with various combinations of learning differences such as Autism spectrum, ADHD, PDA, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, and APD, specializing in executive functioning challenges and anxiety-driven dysregulation. My foundational training is based on the science of data-driven teaching, and applying a research-based, systematic, and individualized approach. I have deep experience with a wide variety of learning systems, which I integrate into a comprehensive, engaging and effective program to maximize student progress. I’m originally from Pakistan by way of Maine, and live in the East Bay with my husband, two teenage daughters, tween son, a pitbull and a pug. In my free time I enjoy making to-do lists, planning healthy meals, eating unhealthy meals, family adventures, and the outdoors.
